In November 2023, we invited tropical-pop band Cassia to join us for a week in Mexico.
The trio arrived in Monterrey to perform at New Media MTY’s event alongside local artists Peninsula and Cosmic Brothers. Curated by the MIMEC cluster of music, creative industries and tech companies, the event brought together speakers, presentations and music from international attendees. Following on from the event, Cassia joined Andrés Farías and Arturo Arredondo (aka Arthur White) on their podcast Sell Out by Negro Pasión.
The next leg of the trip included performing at Corona Capital in Mexico City, whose line-up featured international artists such as Alanis Morissette, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Blur, The Chemical Brothers, Jungle and Arcade Fire to name a few. Cassia soon captured attention from festival-goers who flocked to see their performance on the Corona Cero stage in the beaming sunshine. To mark the boys’ first time in Mexico, we collaborated with Colombian illustrator Cristian Alarcon, who designed some epic merch. Known for his eye-catching poster designs for YNOT festival, The Vaccines and Arctic Monkeys, Cris created the perfect poster and T-Shirt design (available on Negro Pasión).
Cassia finished off their trip to Mexico by creating a live session on an iconic trajinera at Xochimilco, where we collaborated with filmmaker León Rechy to capture songs from the band as we cruised down the canal.
